Julius Caesar (13 July 100 BC 15 March 44 BC) Julius Caesar played a critical role in the transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. This sparked a civil war from which he emerged as the unrivaled leader of the Roman World. Marcus Junius Brutus, a good friend of Caesar, felt he had to save the republic from the dictatorship of Caesar. On March 15th 44 BC, (Ides of March) Brutus and senate conspirators assassinated Julius Caesar, stabbing him at least 23 times with daggers they hid in their togas.
