This scarce original German 2 Mark Silver Coin was issued by the Nazi Government in the mid to late 1930's only (by 1940 all silver was being diverted to the war effort). It features the bust of the great WW1 commander and president prior to Hitler, Paul von Hindenburg. Believing that he was stabilizing the government, Hindenburg consented to Hitler succeeding him and swore him in in 1933 only to die the next year. The Nazis used his portrait to show continuity and tradition but very quickly implemented Hitler's absolute rule. The inscription etched into the rim of the coin translates as public good before self interest. We have this coin in VF for 20 and in Gem for 30 (please email if interested in either).
